2023 is done and we are officially into 2024 so I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and pray that God blesses your lives with health, happiness and good fortune! 2023 was another great year in music but made extra special with the release of my brother’s 1st solo album that I was blessed to be a part of, In Him I Rise. Been a long journey to come full circle to use our talents to make music to Glorify Jesus and it was a long process but it was so worth it and to see our music having a positive affect on people’s lives is just priceless. My top 5 songs on Spotify Wrapped was all our music lol but I didn’t feel right putting our songs on the list bc I am def biased so I just included them at the end and saved the list for other songs. But I truly believe In Him I Rise was the best Christian Hip Hop album of the year and that most if not all tracks should be ranked bc worked really hard on it and I think it paid off with quality. We def appreciate everyone that listened to it and bc it is music for Jesus, it is timeless so keep listening in 2024! Gonna go over the top 40 songs and say a bit about each one.
#1 song of the year goes to Tenille Arts with Motel on the Moon! Amazing song with a storytelling vibe, singing is unreal, melody is great, I couldn’t deny it the top spot. So many great songs this year made it a really tough choice and honestly I went back and forth all year. You Don’t Want That Smoke by Bailey Zimmerman was close to getting bc the singing, guitar and storytelling vibe make it just smoke. Anne Wilson does it again with Living Water, could listen to her sing all day and this song has such a great vibe to it, makes me want to reach for the mountaintops. It is so much fun to sing Hay is For Horses man what a great song. It’s a simple song but The Reklaws take it to another level. The Tree by Maren Morris might be my most bunged song of the year lol when it 1st came out I literally couldn’t stop. I almost ruined it but it never got old so that’s how you know it’s great. Happy People is another one I love to sing and has a big time epic vibe to it. Lainey Wilson crushed it with her album this year, so many top quality songs on it but I feel Wildflowers and Wild Horses combines everything from guitar to singing to stand above the rest. Hands on the Wheel man this one takes me to a place when I listen and sing to it, unreal singing from Karley Scott Collins and she is a star. Lauren Daigle put her best foot forward with this album, tough to settle on the best song but Don’t Believe Them hits different. Don’t Do Me Good starts with a slow build into an epic finish man really great collab. Obv already love Kacey Musgraves but this is my introduction to Madi Diaz and looking forward to hearing more in 2024.
I was blown away to learn Idris Elba made bangers lol it was tough competition but man I think Big Talk was the best Dance banger of the year it combines everything and is impossible not to vibe to. Jesus and Jesse James is another one I love to sing, Brandon Davis crushed this one. Spirit of the Hawk was close to being the best Dance Banger bc man it makes me sing every time and always brings my energy up. Love it. Mamaw’s House came out of nowhere but wow what an awesome track from 2 of the best in Country music. Some Horses has that chill yet epic vibe and is easy to relate to, great stuff from Old Dominion this year but this was def my fav. Can’t express how much I love Nashville CA/L.A. Tennessee from the singing to the story it tells, Tim McGraw is one of my fav all time artists so it’s cool to see him still putting out top level bangers like this. Drunk Thoughts is my introduction to Jenna LaMaster and wow i’m blown away, this song takes me to a place when I listen and I listened a lot lol such a great vibe to the song and her singing is amazing. QUIET is another one that takes me to a place when I listen, just fills me with strength and makes me want to reach out for God. Incredible singing and message. Oh man Mary Jane & Chardonnay is so fn good, I love tracks about cannabis and this is on of the best. Such a fun vibe and fun to sing along to. Billie Eilish does it again with What I Was Made For, perfect for the Barbie movie and just a mountaintop performance from Billie.
REBEL is def a banger and makes me want to get up and go lol all of my fellow rebels will def love it. I just thank god that Anne Wilson uses her talents for God bc she is amazing and the world needs awesome songs like this with a Christian theme. Turbulent Skies shows why Lauren Daigle is one of the best in the business, the vibe is just incredible and her singing is always on point. Morgan Wallen with another amazing album in 2023, most of the top songs were on last years playlist but Outlook belongs right there with them. Really fun to sing and love the message. Happy by HARDY changes it up from your typical songs with a different storytelling vibe and hits a big home run man I absolutely love this song. More Than Yesterday was a surprise from Russell Dickerson and Two Friends after he dropped his awesome album last year but the guy just crushes it every time, love singing this song and he really shows off his voice with it. That Ain’t It by E.G.R, Miles Minnick, Zee is my top Rap song of the year man what an absolute banger and it’s all great Christian lyrics. Not gonna lie, outside of the mainstream singles I did not like Zach Bryans album but wow the singles were all amazing. Kacey Musgraves was the perfect voice to collab with and what a home run they hit with this awesome song I Remember Everything. Without You is a great mix of up tempo/ballad, hard to do but Elle King is so awesome and Diplo always delivers quality. Good Time just fills the room with energy, such a great track from Jodie Harsh. Red Flags makes it hard to do rankings bc it’s so fn good how do you not have it higher but def one of the best of the year, Josh Ross keeps rising with great songs like this.
Jess Glynne might be the most underrated artist in the business, always makes amazing music and Silly Me is no exception. Luke Combs with 1 of the best Country Albums this year and 5 Leaf Clover is my fav, really fun to sing. Adam Doleac is another underrated artist, all his music is good but wow Barstool Whiskey Wonderland takes it to another level. Damn Country Music by Riley Greene is perfect when you’re cruising on the highway, such great vibes. James Barker Band always makes fun tracks and Champagne is awesome, love the guitar and the hook is great. MONEY ON THE DASH by Elley Duhe, Whethan is such a fn banger, makes it worth it to listen to so much music throughout the year so I don’t miss gems like this. Kelsea Ballerini with another great album and man did I binge Mountain With A View lol unreal storytelling vibes and singing. She Calls Me Back with Noah Kahan is the 3rd Kacey Musgraves collab in the top 40 but you can’t deny an awesome track like this, so much fun to sing to. Did not expect a Jonas Brothers/Bailey Zimmerman collab but happy we got it bc they crushed this track I just wish it was longer haha Make You Say by Zedd, Maren Morris, BEAUZ rounds out the top 40 and just proves how good Maren Morris is. Zedd knows how to do dance bangers and combined with Maren’s singing it hits the mountaintop.
I could def talk about every track but I’ll stop at the top 40 so I can post this today lol all of the songs on the list were my fav song at one point so the ranking number doesn’t really matter, every song on the list is mountaintop quality. The full list is at the end. Next I’m gonna talk about the awards for the year and go over the top albums in each category:
ALBUM OF THE YEAR – Everything I Didn’t Say by Ella Henderson
-I was blown away by how many top quality songs were on this album as you can see by how many are on the Top Songs list lol def an all time great album
HON MENTION: Lauren Daigle’s self titled album made picking Ella’s album tough bc man what a home run this was. Banger after Banger with a Christian theme man it doesn’t get much better than this. She is already one of my fav but I’m an even bigger fan after this album. Lost In Translation by Valley continues their unbelievable run of great music, so many bangers on this album. 1 of the best Canadian bands going, I discovered them when they performed at the 2022 Grey Cup and it’s been nothing but greatness since then. My Tribe by Blessing Offor was absolutely great and he is an alum of The Voice so it was tough to deny him lol 1 of the best in the business right now with his voice and style. We The Kingdom self titled album had multiple top level bangers on it and was great top to bottom.
Bebe from Bebe Rexha was awesome and just solidifes her legacy as a great singer. She is prob underrated too considering how consistently great she is. The Album from The Jonas Brothers was awesome and filled with bangers. Def crushed this one. The Show from Niall Horan was great and further establishes him as a top level solo artist. Great year for him repeating as winning coach on the Voice and dropping this album. Amber/Amethyst/Emerald/Sapphire/Ruby from Julia Michaels was such a treat man I’m a huge fan of her so to keep getting top quality like this is such a blessing. 1 of the best in the business no doubt. what if i was great?/bright orange everglow from elijah woods was so fn awesome man he is def one of Canada’s best artists right now. Banger after banger the guy doesn’t miss.
HIP HOP ALBUM OF THE YEAR – In Him I Rise by Servant lol i don’t want to pick ourselves so I’ll give it to He’s Been Good – Miz Tiffany
-so happy I discovered her music this year bc she is incredible. Loved listening to this all year.
HON MENTION: Kieran The Light. Became 1 of my fav rappers this year bc he crushed everything I heard.
COUNTRY ALBUM OF THE YEAR – Bell Bottom Country – Lainey Wilson
-brutal competition this year but I couldn’t deny her, I played her album during times of fellowship during the summer and watched people immediately start vibing to it. Multiple tracks that could have been Song of the Year, this one is an all timer.
HON MENTION: One Thing At A Time was another Double Album from Morgan Wallen and I am so thankful he drops so much music bc it is all legitimately great. If it wasn’t following 1 of the greatest Albums of all time it might have taken #1 but it’s still amazing. Hope he keeps giving us these double albums. Religiously from Bailey Zimmerman is what potential paying off looks like. I became a fan through the awesome singles he would drop so I was pumped to hear his album was great. Unreal from top to bottom and might get an entry on the best 3 songs in a row list but I want to wait for recency bias to pass haha the buzzsaw of competition just keeps rolling with Good Ol Days from The Reklaws and it was great top to bottom with 1 of the best songs of the year.
Gettin Old from Luke Combs was a surprise to me since we got an awesome album last year but wow I loved this one.
Queen of Me from Shania Twain solidifies her legacy as one of the GOATS in Country music but that was never in doubt. Lots of great tarcks on this one.
the mockingbird & THE CROW from HARDY was awesome with so many great tracks on it. Not a fan of screaming rock but I enjoyed a few tracks of that style like JACK.
Barstool Whiskey WonderLand from Adam Doleac was amazing top to bottom and made me a big fan of him.
Mr. Sun from Little Big Town delivered 1 of the best songs of the year last year and then a few more for this years list, loved listening to this album during the summer.
Tyler Hubbard self titled album was great and the song Miss My Daddy really connected with my Dad who lost his way too young. I love their music as Florida Georgia Line but will always support great music like this.
Rolling Up the Welcome Mat from Kelsea Ballerini continues her run of home run albums. Loved this one and Mountain With a View and Blindsided were binged big time this year.
Bluebird Days from Jordan Davis has multiple bangers on it and I was lucky enough to see him live to start the year so I got to hear multiple tracks from the album so I was more than ready when it dropped lol
Blacktop from Corey Kent showed his potential is being realized. Been loving his singles but getting an entire album was great. Always root for alum from The Voice so hopefully his momentum keeps rolling in 2024.
Poets Resume from Tim McGraw is another top to bottom great one for his legendary resume but I think Nashville CA/L.A. Tennessee might be one of my fav tracks he has done. We’ll see where it ranks when recency bias goes away but I was loving it this year.
Can’t Hide Country from Emily Ann Roberts and another Voice alum crushes an album in 2023. Amazing debut album for her with multiple bangers and sets a solid foundation for her future career.
Along The Way from Colbie Caillat man I am so happy she is making music again. Became a huge fan after her debut album so I was really looking forward to this album and it more than delivered. Some of the top songs of the year on it. Praying the music keeps coming in 2024 and beyond.
Memory Lane from Old Dominion was so awesome man they always crush it. Banger after banger it was tough to leave some of em off the Top Songs list.
Carolyn’s Boy from Darius Rucker is a really great album that lets him showcase his talent as a singer. Love that he carved out another GOAT legacy on top of his GOAT legacy with Hootie and the Blowfish.
One Night in Nashville from Cheat Codes was awesome man it was brutal to leave some of these tracks off the best songs listr. Country music absolutely lends itself to the electronic style so I’m praying this album is just the tip of the iceberg.
SOUNDTRACK OF THE YEAR – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
-no contest, this is one of the best soundtracks of all time and produced multiple all time great songs. The original songs from the movie are amazing, what a blessing this sound track was.
ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR – Get Rollin – Nickelback
-I know everyone acts like Nickelback sucks but thats only bc people got sick of them bc their songs were so great the radio overplayed the shit out of them lol they are legitimately a GOAT level band and proved it by releasing an album with multiple great tracks on it. You can choose not to listen but you cant deny their talent.
NOT FROM 2023 BUT STILL GREAT – SIXX:AM Greatest Hits
-Holy shit have I been missing out. SIXX:AM was started by Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue and their greatest hits album from 2021 is fn unreal. Great songs and the band just shreds. It has some Christian messages and honestly it is prob my fav rock music from the last 10 years for sure. Prob won’t get any more music from SIXX:AM unfortunately but this will stand the test of time as legitimately great rock.
HON MENTION: Whiskey’s Fine by Adam Doleac is from 2020 but just heard it this year and binged the shit out of it lol amazing song
Girls That You Loved Before by Taylor Swift is such a great song, I actually like it more than anything off her latest album but i’ve been missing out bc it is from 2019. Obv she is 1 of the biggest legends of our time and discovering hidden gems like this only adds to it.
